My 3 Daily Habits

Going into 2019, I created a list of tasks I wanted to complete daily, weekly and monthly throughout the year, with the intention of improving my state of mind, bringing more spirituality and positivity into my life and getting a greater sense of my life path. While there are a number of habits on my list, I decided to share the three that I believe are the most integral, and that can be easily incorporated into your life.


A few years back, I read somewhere that meditating 5 minutes a day can be a lot more beneficial for you than meditating for an hour once a blue moon. I downloaded the app, Insight Timer at the end of November 2016, and decided to test out this theory.

Since then, I have meditated every single day, meditations ranging from 1 minute to an hour. Through this process, I have discovered that I stress less, I’m able to live in the moment, I can easily take breaks from my thoughts, I can let things go, and I am no longer afraid of death. While meditation doesn’t work for everybody, its definitely works for me.

Morning Pages

Morning Pages – an activity I stumbled across in Julia Cameron’s, The Artist’s Way. Every morning, before you have started your day, you must grab 3 pieces of A4 paper, and write. You can write absolutely anything, as long as you fill the three pages.

Over the years, I have modified Morning Pages so that they work for me. So, instead of restricting myself to morning writing, I have allowed myself to write at any time of the day – Yes, I’ve done morning pages at 11pm. Moreover, instead of writing 3 pages, I set a timer for 25 minutes and write as much as I can during that space of time. I write in journals so that all my morning pages are together.

Over the past three years, I have gone through periods of Morning Pages, and periods of nothing, but going into 2019, I decided that I really wanted to commit to it this time. Morning Pages get rid of any chaos in my head, ground me, help me breathe, give me ideas (I get most of my creative ideas from Morning Pages!) give me a better sense of my thoughts and help me solve problems. Sure, some days I feel like I fill the pages with dull accounts of my day, (“I got up and then I went to the kitchen to make breakfast. I ate –“) But there are moments where I’ll solve a problem, come up with a creative idea or scribble down a profound thought. (I got the idea for the positivity activity in my last Facebook Live from Morning Pages!) Morning Pages have also helped me overcome fear and they have encouraged me to do things that scare me.

I don’t really read over my Morning Pages, although if you’d like to, you can. (Julia Cameron said something about only reading over your morning pages a few months after you have written them.)

Writing Down 3 Things I’m Grateful For

Admittedly, this is a new habit as I only incorporated it into my life this year. Before I go to bed every night, I write down three things I’m grateful for (usually something from the day). I type them in a memo on my phone, but I would imagine that a journal/notebook could be just as effective.

I’m a big believer in gratitude, and the notion that your inner world determines your outer world. When I am grateful and appreciative of what I have, I feel good and attract more positivity and wonderful things into my life. I think we can all feel content within this moment, and gratitude does that.
